Early Xmas Surprise

Had a lovely surprise from my Swedish illustrator friend Ingrid Arnell when she sent me this early xmas surprise - a handprinted "Green Apples" tote bag. She made these at the international ‘Textile design and printing’ course at Capellagården, Vickleby, Öland, Sweden.

Thursday

The Museum Of Everything

Yesterday I visited London's famous department store Selfridges, the new hosts of The Museum Of Everything Exhibition4. I was a little concerned how it would work in a huge department store but the exhibition was far from disappointing. Exhibition 4 showcases the work of disabled artists from workshops around the world. These artists demonstrate their need to create.

Kid Koala Launch Party "Music to Draw To"

On Tuesday I went to the launch of Kid Koala's book and soundtrack Space Cadet hosted by Material at the Red Gallery on Rivington Street.

It was a refreshing evening where people were invited to draw, knit, write and generally create to the music Kid Koala was playing. It was a great turnout and the hot chocolate and cakes added to the chilled out atmosphere and the above drawing was one of many I managed to doodle that night.

Kid Koala is a world-renowned scratch DJ who has made a name for himself not only with his music, but also with his visual art. He has released three solo albums on Ninja Tune.

Vintage Tea Party & Gift Fair

Last Saturday I held a stall at the Vintage Tea Party & Gift Fair at the trendy Boogaloo pub in Highgate. Gina and I had so much fun in the friendly atmosphere that we almost forgot that we were supposed to be selling my Jilltydrawings tea towels and aprons! We even treated ourselves to an amazing vintage style makeover courtesy of Pincurls and Pout.

Thursday

Oranges & Lemons

After holding a stall at Fifi's market on Sunday, I uploaded some of my new stock onto my Etsy shop. The apron above is celebrating the old English nursery rhyme and singing game "Oranges & Lemons" which refers to the bells of several churches, all within or close to the City of London.

Wednesday

Went to the pop up Festival of Stories in Coram Fields, London at the weekend. It was great! Lots of children's book characters and illustrators signing books. There were the creators of Rastamouse, Genevieve Webster and Michael De Souza singing 'nuff' tunes, Axel Scheffler, illustrator of the Gruffalo and I HAD to hang around for a cinnamon biscuit at a Moomin Tea party -I love Tove Jansson's magical characters! Ok, so I was the only adult there who didn't work at the event or had kids, but it was a great afternoon which confirmed to me how important illustration is in the world of children's books. It also reminded me that reading children's books when I was young was the start of my interest in illustration as a career.

Sunday

Jillty drawings stall

Just had a stall at the Soho Festival. Trade was a bit slow but it was a day full of entertainment from Raffle prizes and Pimms to Drag Queens and Adam Ant.

Floating Cinema Launched!

The event of Friday went really well and I was so surprised at the turn out. The boat looked amazing and it was really exciting to see the puff pattern and the boat name in the flesh. The cinema is free and open throughout the summer. For more info click here

Karen O

I got bored one day and decided to get some printing inks out. After a few experiments this was one result, a mono print of Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
